Toronto Copy Editing offers a variety of services to suit your specific needs:
Line Editing
The most comprehensive level of service constitutes major editing, including sentence-by-sentence revision and suggestions about word choice, paragraph construction, and active versus passive voice. We can assess sentences’ contribution to the strength of the argument and query misalignment between evidence and statements. Our feedback on the overall piece has specific suggestions for revisions that will help authors communicate their ideas cogently.
Copy Editing
We polish sentences to clarify ambiguity, correct grammar, and revise awkward phrasing, as well as provide mechanical editing and minor proofreading to improve consistency and readability, such as aligning verb tense within paragraphs. We also check proper noun spellings and note sentences that are wordy or unclear.
Proofreading
The last step reviews a final draft for textual and visual errors before publication or submission: checking for formatting inconsistencies and correcting typos and grammatical errors, such as misspellings, subject–verb disagreement, incorrect capitalization, and punctuation issues.
Indexing
Level 1, our most basic level of indexing, includes people, publication titles, and other proper nouns.
Level 2 locates proper nouns and uses the author’s guidelines for their related subheadings; it also draws on the author’s list of subject terms to select subject headings and subheadings.
Level 3 analyzes the manuscript in depth to identify all proper nouns and suggest a complete list of subject terms, headings, and subheadings to be used in the index.
